Better Life Church in Morehead Celebrates a Revival Season with 76 Professions of Faith and 82 Baptisms
MOREHEAD, Ky. — Mondays are usually seen as a day to recover from the weekend, but for Better Life Church (BLC) in Morehead, it has become a day of excitement and gratitude. Pastor Daniel Lucas, reflecting on the recent surge in church activity, shared how the church is experiencing a powerful revival as part of its ongoing “Awakening” sermon series.
“There’s a lot of talk about Monday blues after Sunday, but we’re in a season where every Monday we have been grateful to see what God has been doing, to see all year long how faithful people have been,” said Lucas. Following Sunday’s three services, the team was eager to follow up on the unprecedented number of spiritual commitments made.
During those services, 76 people made professions of faith, and 82 were baptized—30 of those baptisms were pre-arranged, while the remaining 50 were spontaneous, as people responded to the call of the gospel. Pastor Lucas expressed joy at seeing so many people choosing to declare their faith publicly through baptism. “A lot of them were saved and baptized the same day. I didn’t pressure them. The first command of being a believer is to be baptized. We had the t-shirts and the towels, so why not?”
Better Life Church, with its average Sunday attendance of around 1,700, is making a remarkable impact in Morehead, a city with a population of just 7,000. The church holds three services every Sunday, and the results of the “Awakening” series have been a testimony to its growing influence. This series, focusing on revival and a call to salvation, has drawn in not only regular attendees but also new visitors, many of whom have responded with life-changing decisions.
Pastor Lucas, who grew up in eastern Kentucky, has been leading the church since its founding in 2004. A former student of Morehead State, Lucas found his faith while involved in the Baptist Campus Ministry, which was led by Gene Parr at the time. This personal experience of transformation has driven his passion for evangelism and church planting in the region. Under Lucas’s leadership, Better Life Church has seen over 4,000 people come to faith in Christ over the past 18 years.
How Are Revival Events Impacting Local Churches Like Those in Kentucky?
Revival events, such as the university of arkansas revival, are breathing new life into local churches in Kentucky. These gatherings attract congregants eager for spiritual renewal, fostering community engagement and deepening faith. As participants share their experiences, the revitalization spreads, encouraging more individuals to reconnect with their local church communities.
A History Of Revival

This isn’t the first time the church has witnessed such revival. In 2009, during a previous “Awakening” series, 101 people were saved in a single day, and by the end of that season, 173 lives had been transformed. Similarly, in 2014, during a series titled “Everyone Needs a Miracle,” 84 people were saved in one day.
Matthew Mofield, leader of the Baptist Campus Ministry at Morehead State, emphasized the impact of BLC not just on the local community but on the broader region. “It has been amazing to see how the Lord has grown Better Life Church over the past several years and used BLC to plant other churches in the region as well.”
Pastor Lucas has drawn inspiration from fellow pastors, such as Steve Ayers of Hillvue Heights Church in Bowling Green, which is a leader in baptisms within the Southern Baptist Convention. Comparing BLC’s revival to Hillvue’s annual “Godstock” festival, Lucas noted the parallels in how both churches are experiencing powerful moves of God.
Looking ahead, BLC continues to focus on spiritual growth through small groups and weekly Bible studies for families. Pastor Lucas attributes the church’s post-COVID growth to an awakening among young people and remains committed to reaping the harvest of what has been sown.
In a city where 22 percent of the population attends Better Life Church’s services, the church’s revival is a powerful testament to the transformative power of faith.
